Mary Anne Huntington
Jewelry Crafter

Educated as a technical illustrator, I worked in academia preparing artwork for journals, textbooks, presentations, etc., eventually working with computers and graphic programs.  Retired from Suffolk County Community College, I turned to the creative efforts that have been my avocation most of my life.

While visiting in California, I was introduced to crafting silver clay jewelry—a kiln-fired fine silver medium.  I return to San Diego annually to take classes with mavens of silver clay and metalsmithing–Lu McGill, Max Buros, Deb Lovett Jemmott, Jackie Truty, Leslee Frumin, among others.  I continue to build on their tutelage in exploring and developing mastery by creating one-of-a-kind or limited edition jewelry.  Much of my work is a manifestation of textures found in nature and skeuomorphs of found objects.

My work has been displayed at the Winter Harbor Gallery (Greenport), East End Arts Council (Riverhead), Lyceum Gallery (SCCC, Riverhead), Old Town Art and Crafts Guild (Cutchogue), Hallockville Museum Farm (Riverhead), and select retail shops.  I was featured as “Artist of the Week” on the WLIW Ticket show in 2005, and in 2007, I participated in the studio tour at the Raven in the Sun Gallery in Abiquiu, New Mexico.

Currently, I teach bead and wire jewelry crafting locally and teach silver clay techniques in my home studio.  Lately, I have been working with copper, a metal that has long-held my interest, and am exploring new ways of using it in jewelry.

Each day brings new ideas, new challenges and great satisfaction.
